Maintenance Facility Shovel Shop for Mining Company
This project was constructed under a fast-track timeline that required precise orchestration of subcontractors. To house some of the largest mining eqiupment that exists, the facility required a clear working height of 34 ft. and an eave height of 45 ft. Above the clear height the building is equipped with a 20-ton bridge crane. The building also houses an administrative wing, and on the exterior has a high. bay-covered storage area. To achieve the required floor stability, a raft slab design was used: the raft slab was 20 ft deep with two lower mats of rebar, all on top of 5 ft of geomat-layered earth above 60 feet of existing fill. We performed a continuous pour of 470 cu. yds. starting at midnight, requiring a concrete truck to arrive every 6 minutes for almost 5 hours. The finished slab was flawless. ...
